Broken Shapes is a collaboration between Rimah Jabr, a theatre maker based in Toronto and Dareen Abbas, a visual artist based in Brussels. In Broken Shapes, a young woman who lives in a city under siege discovers her father’s architectural drawings on the day of his burial. Overcome with grief, she falls into the dream worlds and imaginary places that her father has created.

Broken Shapes is a hybrid performance constructed of visual installations, videos, and performing arts, based on Rimah and Dareen’s research on the unintentional ways that physical space can influence our minds. Broken Shapes equally takes the form of a monologue and interactive installation. The project was developed and created over the course of four years in the Residency Program at The Theatre Centre in Toronto.
